ARTWORK SUMMARY

Q: There is much sadness in this painting, however, the heroine is enveloped in vibrant flowers. How do you choose the kind of flowers you would include in a painting. Do you research academically or do you also visit gardens and nurseries for inspiration on flowers?

Katrina: Sometimes I research what a particular flower symbolizes before painting it, but most of the time it’s really just based on its shape and colour. And yes, I like to visit botanic gardens whenever I travel to take inspiration and snap photos for painting references.
