ARTWORK SUMMARY

The subject in the painting is representative of every woman. I chose to portray her as Japanese to better suit the Hannya mask she is holding. “We Are Our Own Demons” depicts the fact that there are two sides to every person; that we all have aspects of our personalities that may cause us guilt, self-doubt, or even anguish – aspects that one may choose to either wear visibly or conceal, thus the Hannya mask symbolism.
